Breaking Free: Luz Elena’s Journey from Victimhood to Empowerment

Luz Elena once believed she had control over her life. A resilient woman, she endured the loss of her husband after a seven-year battle with a brain tumour, raising two young children alone.

Later, she found herself in a toxic relationship that left her emotionally and physically exhausted. But even as she felt trapped, she prided herself on her strength—showing the world how much she could endure.

“I wanted people to admire me for how strong I was,” she reflects. “But deep down, I was still waiting for kindness, still hoping someone would recognise how much I was struggling.”

Despite being a coach who taught others how to transform their lives, Luz Elena felt shame that she couldn’t apply the lessons to herself. She was stuck in a cycle of people-pleasing and exhaustion, unable to take control of her own happiness.

Then, one morning, something inside her snapped.

“I couldn’t do it anymore,” she says. “I walked out of my house with my daughter and my pets, looking for a new home. I was terrified—but at the same time, I was too tired to be scared.”

That moment of surrender changed everything. She started asking for help, something she had resisted for so long. To her surprise, people responded with support and encouragement. Work opportunities improved, her daughters became happier, and most importantly, she felt lighter.

From Survival to Thriving

Once she let go of control and trusted herself, the Universe responded.

“It was like an upward spiral. I took one brave step, and then another. Every small success made me feel stronger.”

She moved into a small home, giving away 70% of her belongings. With fewer possessions weighing her down, she felt more open to possibilities. Clients seemed to appear effortlessly—perhaps because her energy had shifted.

“The Universe speaks in emotions,” she explains.  She started to feel better. “When I focused on what was working instead of what wasn’t, more doors opened. I realized that even if 80% of what I tried didn’t work, the 20% that did was enough.”

Dreaming Bigger

Now, Luz Elena is no longer just surviving—she’s thriving. She dreams of travelling for months at a time and bringing the I Believe in Me program to children across Mexico.

The program, based on Infinite Possibilities (by Mike Dooley) helps kids and teenagers recognize the power of their thoughts and beliefs. She’s currently taking it to orphanages, safe houses for trafficked children, and public schools where teachers can help spread the message.

“These kids start believing they have some power over their lives, even in difficult circumstances,” she says. “They may not be able to control everything, but they can control their reactions, their dreams, and their mindset.”

She shares the inspiring story of Jose, a Mexican immigrant who arrived in the U.S. in the 1960s without knowing any English. As a child, he dreamed of becoming an astronaut. His father believed in him, and despite being rejected 11 times, he eventually joined NASA.

“That’s what I want kids to understand,” she says. “If you take small steps every day, you can achieve big dreams.”

Her advice to others?

“Take the first step. Be brave for just one second. Once you surrender and open yourself to receiving, everything changes. Trust yourself—you were born to thrive.”
